Review Guidelines
Last updated October 5, 2026
VotedMenu works because people trust that every rating comes from someone who actually ate the dish. These guidelines keep it that way. Breaking them can get content removed or an account closed.
Rate What You Actually Ate
- Review only dishes and places you’ve tried yourself, recently enough to remember.
- Rate the dish, not the restaurant’s overall reputation, and the place for food, service, atmosphere and value.
- One review per dish and per place. Update yours if things change instead of posting again.
Keep It Honest
- No fake reviews, and no reviews written for pay, discounts, freebies or any other reward from a business. VotedMenu coins are the exception: everyone earns them the same way, whatever stars they give.
- Don’t review a place you own, work for, are closely related to, or compete with.
- Owners must not ask for, buy or reward reviews, or ask people to change or remove them.
- Don’t coordinate with others to push a rating up or down.
Coins
- You earn coins for rating and reviewing. A 1★ and a 5★ rating earn the same: coins reward effort, never opinions.
- Reviews of a restaurant you manage don’t earn coins. Coins from reviews we remove for breaking these guidelines are taken back.
- Farming coins with low-effort, copied or fake reviews can get your coins frozen or your account closed.
- Restaurants must never offer coins, discounts or anything else for a review, or for changing one.
Be Respectful and Relevant
- Criticise the food and the experience, not people. No hate, harassment, threats or slurs.
- Don’t name or describe staff or other guests in ways that could identify or embarrass them, and never share personal information like phone numbers or addresses.
- Stay on topic: no political rants, promotions, links or spam.
- No sexual, violent or disturbing content.
Photos
- Post only photos you took, of the food, drinks, menu or place.
- Avoid clear shots of other people’s faces without their permission.
For Restaurant Owners
- Reply to reviews politely and publicly; don’t reveal anything about the reviewer beyond what they shared.
- Keep menus, prices and offers accurate, and honour offers you post.
- You can’t remove reviews. If one breaks these guidelines, report it like anyone else.
How We Moderate
Anyone can report a review, photo, post or comment with its “Report” link, or by emailing legal@votedmenu.com with a link to it. A person reviews each report against these guidelines and the law. If we remove your content, we notify you with the reason, and you can ask us to look again through the contact page. Repeated or serious breaches can lead to suspension.
